- Shopify acts as a subcontractor for BARONES to provide the technical infrastructure (hosting, payment gateways, e-commerce functionalities). The data is then processed on behalf of BARONES.
- Shopify can also act as an independent data controller for some of its own purposes, for example:
- security and fraud prevention across its platform;
- analyses and improvements of its services;
- certain cross-merchant advertising features (if enabled).
